RhizoPulse Lucerne

Ensifer meliloti

Live Ensifer meliloti seed inoculant that builds effective, actively fixing nodules for stronger, longer-lasting lucerne stands.

Product overview

About RhizoPulse Lucerne

RhizoPulse Lucerne is a live biological inoculant containing selected Ensifer meliloti, a bacterium naturally capable of forming a nitrogen-fixing symbiosis with lucerne (Medicago sativa).

After successful infection of the developing roots, the bacteria stimulate formation of specialised root nodules where atmospheric nitrogen is converted into forms the plant can use. The goal isn't simply more nodules — it's effective, actively nitrogen-fixing nodules.

Each pack also includes 1 litre of TrichoSol, AgriBac's Trichoderma-based root protector, for stronger early root growth alongside effective nodulation.

Key benefits

Rapid root colonisation

Places compatible rhizobia close to the emerging root for early establishment.

Effective nodule formation

Supports early establishment of functional, actively fixing nodules.

Biological nitrogen fixation

Allows the crop to access atmospheric nitrogen through its symbiotic relationship with E. meliloti.

Stronger early establishment

Supports vigorous plant development from emergence onward.

Long-term productivity

Good nodulation establishes the biological nitrogen system a productive perennial stand relies on.

How it works

01

Root recognition

Lucerne roots and compatible E. meliloti communicate through chemical signalling in the rhizosphere.

02

Root infection

Compatible bacteria enter developing root tissue and initiate the nodulation process.

03

Nodule development

The plant forms specialised nodules that house the beneficial bacteria.

04

N₂ fixation

Inside active nodules, E. meliloti converts atmospheric nitrogen into biologically available nitrogen.

05

Plant growth

The resulting nitrogen supports vegetative growth, protein production and continued forage yield.

Check your nodules

Dig a few plants (don't pull) a few weeks after emergence, wash the roots, and cut nodules open to check activity.

Effective active nodule

Pink or red internally — indicates active nitrogen fixation.

Young nodule

May initially appear pale before becoming fully active.

Inactive / ineffective

Typically white, cream or green internally — not fixing nitrogen.

Application

Mixing & application guide

  1. Shake well

Mix RhizoPulse Lucerne and TrichoSol thoroughly before use.

  2. Apply RhizoPulse Lucerne & TrichoSol

Apply both evenly to the lucerne seed while mixing.

  3. Add DP500

Apply DP500 protectant immediately after the liquid inoculants.

  4. Mix thoroughly

Ensure uniform coverage of the seed for consistent results.

  5. Protect the biology

Keep treated seed cool and protected from direct sunlight.

  6. Plant promptly

Plant treated seed as soon as practical for best results.

RhizoPulse Lucerne and TrichoSol are live biological products — keep cool, do not freeze, and protect from direct sunlight during storage and after treatment.
